Frequently Asked Questions
Can I send you my old sweaters?
Thank you for thinking of me. I'm happy to accept any sweaters that would otherwise no longer be of any use, even if they have holes, stains or are shrunken.
Please write me a message beforehand. Pictures and some rough information about the sweaters would be ideal so that I can be sure that upcycling is possible. The sweaters must be made of 100% wool, cashmere or wool-silk blends, plain and with tight stitches.
Exactly the material, as you know it from the Jawoll pieces.
I'll gladly cover the postage.
Can you sew baby clothes from my old wool sweater?
With pleasure! Please send me a message with a picture of the sweater and some information about it (size, damage) and what you want from it.
You can also order the product directly in the shop.
I need between one and three weeks to complete an individual order.
Please be sure to include your contact details in the package. (Email, social media contact, address)
Where do you get all the broken sweaters?
I work closely with the Berlin City Mission. Clothes that are donated there are often already damaged and therefore cannot be given to those in need. These are sorted out in the City Mission's textile port and put into the material pool. The material pool collects a wide variety of textiles that are waiting to be upcycled. I buy wool sweaters from there at a price per kilo. This also refinances the City Mission.
Since my needs have increased, I am currently looking for additional suppliers.
How do you ship?
I ship as sustainably as possible. I send smaller items by letter, and larger ones in a custom-fit shipping box made of recycled paper.
For very large orders, I recycle existing boxes. All packaging material is plastic-free and shipping is climate-neutral.
Can I also give Jawoll items as gifts?
Ohh, that would make me very happy!
I'm happy to add a message to your order. Please send me an email.
You don't know exactly what you want to give as a gift? Then a voucher for the Jawoll Baby Shop is the right thing for you.
Why are all your seams orange?
Wool is biodegradable - polyester yarn is not. When the textile's usage cycle is over, you can see at a glance through the orange seams where you can separate the thread and wool, thus enabling better recycling.
Do you wash the old sweaters beforehand?
Yes! As soon as I receive sweaters, I wash them in the machine at 20 degrees with an organic wool detergent. I only use clean sweaters. When the pieces are finished sewing, I also brush and steam them.
By the way: Every order comes with washing and care instructions.
Are the woolen items from Jawoll Baby organic / from controlled organic farming (kbA)?
No, I can't guarantee that. But that's not the main point of my upcycling. I try to make existing resources usable again and thus ensure more sustainability in the clothing industry. A big advantage of upcycling: the clothes have already been washed many times, so there's a greater chance that they contain fewer harmful substances.
Do you have a store?
I don't have a store.
I work in my studio, which is part of our family home, and sell the Jawoll Baby pieces online.
Sometimes you can find me at markets (I share information on social media) or a small part of my range at retail partners.
